Earl J. Potter, age 79, of 727 McEwen Road, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016 at his residence. Earl was born at Shouns, Tennessee, February 18, 1937 to the late Dallas Potter and Mamie Addie Potter Forrester. In addition to his parents he was preceded by a daughter, Tammy Carroll Potter and step-father, Earnest Forrester. He was a former timber worker. He did carpenter work and loved spending time with his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Ruth Gambill Potter; his children, James Potter and Mark Potter; grandchildren are Tammy Smith and husband Billy and Kevin Potter.
Great grandchildren are Abagail Garland and Jadynn Smith; god-grandchildren, Hannah Mahaney and husband Matt, Ben James and wife Whitney and Zeb James; great-god-grandchildren, Molly Kate Mahaney and Marlee James; brothers are Thurl Potter and Elmer Potter and sister is Betty Johnson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 5:00 PM from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. The family received friends from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM prior to the funeral service with Daniel Jones officiating. Graveside service and burial followed in the Hammons Cemetery in Forge Creek. Pallbearers were Ben James, Zeb James, Billy Smith, Ben Miller, Jeff Potter and Jose. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Dunn, Robert Olen and Bud Hatley.
