Dorothy Stanley, age 88, of Creston, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Margate Health and Rehab Center of Jefferson, North Carolina. She was born on September 3, 1926 to the late John Henry Daugherty and Maudie Mae Osborne Daugherty. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband R.H. Stanley; two sisters and two brothers.
Dorothy loved flowers and especially enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed taking care of her family, especially caring for her children and grandchildren and enjoyed reading.
She was a member of Big Laurel Church of Christ in Christian Union.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and David Campbell; son, Roger Stanley and fiancé Marie Hamby; granddaughters: Mendy Day and husband Marvin, Amanda Finley and husband Justin, Natasha Peyton and Tamara Fritz; great grandchildren: Grayson Finley, Gracie Finley, Tyler Day, Tanner Day, Timothy Fritz and Roy Fritz; great-great grandchildren: Kenlie and Chloe Day; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastors Darrell Graybeal and Lundy Finley Jr. officiating. Special music was provided by Kody Norris and The Shining Light Singers.
Graveside service and interment followed at the Stanley Family Cemetery, Creston, NC. Pallbearers were Justin Finley, Jesse Vanover, Daniel Fritz, Jerry Wood, Tyler Day and Tanner Day. Honorary pallbearers were all of the staff of Margate Health and Rehab.
The family received friends from 12-2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 2:00.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Peggy Campbell, 13658 Hwy 88 W., Creston, NC.
