Donnelly Northington Adams went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2013. He was 80 years old.
“Don” was born June 12, 1933 in Mountain City, TN, the son of the late John Edgar and Lucie Wilson Adams.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Willa Hensley Adams, brother Richard Adams (Carole) of Salem, OR, and four children: daughters Marcia Ashley (Wade) of Blountville, Diane Compton (Jeff) of Palm Beach, FL, Nicole Adams of Blountville, and son Michael Adams of Blountville. Also survived by two grandchildren: Kevin Martin and Kourtney Baker, both of Blountville, three great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Brent, and Payton, and several special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Don graduated from Johnson County High School in 1951, and attended Tennessee Tech University. He earned an AS degree from Long Beach City College, and a BSIE from East Tennessee State University, with additional MBA coursework also completed at ETSU.
He spent his early engineering career at US Electrical Motors in Southern California, followed by many years in Engineering at Raytheon in Bristol, as well as head of Globe Aviation Security at Tri-Cities Airport.
Don was an active member of Avoca Christian Church, serving as Elder and Sunday School teacher for many years. He also served on the board of Sullivan County 911.
His love of maps and travel, keen interest in road/bridge construction, and inquisitive nature will long be remembered, along with his gentle smile and infectious laugh.
The family received friends on Sunday, September 8, from 1-3pm at Akard funeral home in Bristol, with service following, officiated by Bob Robinson.
Bristol Fire Department provided Honor Guard processional to Glenwood Cemetery mausoleum for interment at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Avoca Christian Church, in memory of Don Adams.
