Deward B. Blevins, age 88, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Johnson County Community Hospital. He was born on January 19, 1926 to the late Bryan and Virgie Blevins Johnson. In addition to his parents, Deward was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Neine Garland Blevins; a sister, Noreen Greene and a granddaughter, Jessica Blevins.
Deward was a World War II Veteran, having honorable served in the United States Navy. He retired from Raytheon where he was a machinist. He was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 F&AM. Deward loved his grandchildren.
He was a member of Harmons Chapel Christian Church.
Deward is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Richard and Joyce Blevins and Robert and Rose Blevins; sister, Maureen Osborne; grandchildren: Katherine Blevins, Kevin Blevins, Kenneth Blevins, Kris Blevins and Keith Blevins and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service with military honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014 from the Blevins Cemetery (Shady Valley, TN) with Pastor Howard Taylor officiating. Pallbearers were Lonnie Long, Huey Long, Tony Long, Keith Blevins, Kevin Long, Mike Averill, Travis Long and Dennis Honaker. Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Blevins, Kenneth Blevins, Kris Blevins and Tony Spencer.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Richard and Joyce Blevins, 1491 Hwy 133, Shady Valley, TN.
