Clyde Calvin Day, age 91, of Marion, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Born in Mountain City, TN on November 20, 1923, he was the son of the late William and Edith Dugger Day. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Marion for 57 years. Mr. Day was a teacher at Nebo and Glenwood Schools and was principal at Marion Elementary before retiring, following 32 years of service with the McDowell County Schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during WWII in which he was called to return to duty during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Ledbetter Day.
Left to cherish Clyde’s memory is one son, Ken Day and his wife Debbie of Morganton; one sister, Kate Wilson of Mountain City, TN; one grandson, Jared Day and one granddaughter, Kali Day, both of Morganton.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Marion with Dr. Scott Hagaman officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy, will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
