Betty Mottern Ferguson, age 90, went to heaven on Friday, September 6, 2013. She was born in Kent, Oregon on May 13, 1923 to Arthur Leland Mottern and Mattie Rae Mottern. She returned to east Tennessee with her family and spent her childhood there. She is survived by Herman White Ferguson, her devoted husband of 69 years. Also cherishing her memory are daughters and sons-in-law Suzanne and Bill Buchanan of Rocky Mount and Rebecca and Ron Azzone of Marblehead, MA; grandchildren Brad and Tiffany Buchanan of Pittsburgh, PA, their children Kenton, Hadley, and Briggs Buchanan; Abby and Colin Neblett of Dallas, TX and their daughter Reed Neblett.
She was a lifelong homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored her family and was a faithful correspondent to friends near and far throughout the years.
She and her husband were active members of First Presbyterian Church, Rocky Mount since their move to the community in 1983. She was an avid participant in the fellowship activities of the church, in particular the In-Betweens fellowship group.
The family received friends at the Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home on Monday night, September 9, 2013 from 7 – 8:30 pm. A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church, Rocky Mount at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 10, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choosing.
