Archie Monroe Crowder, 58, of S. Vermont St. died at his home on Thursday, March 17, 2011. Born on February 19, 1953 in Cumberland County, he was the son of the late Otis Luther Crowder and Flora Alice Peterson Crowder. Archie was a forest ranger by profession, and he spent many hours as an educational volunteer speaking to school children about forestry. He loved nature and all things related to forestry. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield where he served as a deacon and elder. He was active in Boy Scouts for over twenty years. Archie was a pilot and loved to fly. He was a loving and caring son, husband, father, brother, and uncle and he will be greatly missed.
A memorial service was conducted at 4 pm Sunday, March 20, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Joseph Hester officiating. The family received friends at the church prior to the service. Surviving are: his wife, Linda Ray Crowder; son, Brian Peterson Crowder of Smithfield; daughter, Victoria Brook Crowder of Smithfield; brother, Wayne Crowder of Salisbury; sisters, Mary Crowder of Charlotte and Lisa Robinson of Carthage.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Tuscarora Council, PO Box 1436, Goldsboro, NC 27533; or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Triangle/Eastern NC Chapter, 7721 Six Forks Rd., #136, Raleigh, NC 27615; or to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 215 S. Third St., Smithfield, NC 27577. Underwood Funeral Home is assisting the family.
