The need for programs that feed the hungry is growing both locally and nationally. Though the unemployment rate has dropped and the economy is improving, many Johnson Countians aren’t feeling the relief.
The County Commission faced several issues dealing with small road changes this month, leading off with a request by Wiley Roark of the Maymead Company who asked the commission to consider the abandonment of McCarty Road, explaining that Maymead is the only property owner connecting to the road, making exception for the small Potter family cemetery that lies beyond the current end of county maintenance.
On January 20, 2015, Tony Jerome Snyder, 37, of Mountain City, was sentenced to 135 months in federal prison. He was the last in a group of 42 who had been previously charged with methamphetamine manufacturing.
Every month, Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center recognizes employees who have gone above and beyond their job descriptions as part of their Good Samaritan Program. This initiative is not limited to just employees of the nursing home, as acts of kindness by volunteers and residents are also recognized.
