Virginia men charged with 2011 statutory rape in Mountain City

On Thursday, May 24, 2012 three male suspects from Buchanan County, VA were indicted by the Johnson County grand jury following a lengthy investigation of an alleged sexual assault that occurred in Mountain City on June 4, 2011. The investigation led Mountain City Police Department Investigator Jody Putnam to Buchanan County after he had identified the suspects from photographs they had sent to the juvenile victim’s cell phone.
After locating all three suspects and interviewing them, arrest warrants were issued for 33-year-old David Johnny Johnson, 25-year-old Mark Allen Johnson, and 27-year-old Carter Lee Johnson, all from Buchanan County, VA. All three suspects were charged with statutory rape and were arrested.
A preliminary hearing was held in General Sessions Court in Johnson County, and all three suspects were bound over to the Johnson County Grand Jury. The three defendants were indicted for statutory rape, and each was charged with two counts.
Putnam expressed his gratitude to Investigator Shawn Brown and Chief Deputy Joe Woodard of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the investigation as well as Detectives Carla Fletcher and Mike Thompson of the Buchanan County Sheriff’s office.
