ARREST MADE – According to a Tri-Cities news station arrests were made today in the Johnson County double murder case wherein Billy Payne, Jr. and Billie Hayworth were found dead at their home last week.
Reportedly the District Attorney's office released the information that Jamie Curd and Marvin Potter, Jr. were arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder.
We will provide more information as it is made available to us.
According to Johnson County Sheriff Mike Reece, the bodies of a man and woman were found in their residence at 128 James Davis Road, Mountain City yesterday, January 31st, 2012. Both victims, 37-year-old Billy Clay Payne, Jr. and 24-year-old Billie Jean Hayworth, had sustained gunshot wounds to the head. Payne also had knife wounds on his throat. Reece says the deaths are being treated as homicide.
The couples eight-month-old son was apparently in the house at the time of their deaths but was unharmed. He was taken by child protective services to the local hospital for examination. At press time the sheriff expects the child to be released to family members.
Hayworths body was found in the babys bedroom with Paynes in an adjoining bedroom. According to Billy Payne, Sr., the male victims father who also lives at the residence, everything appeared fine when he left about 5:30 Tuesday morning to go to work in Boone, NC.
Reece said that at first it appeared Paynes vehicle was missing but after officials located it, they are satisfied the individual in possession of the car had borrowed it some time ago. At this point it seems to have no bearing on the investigation.
The Tomahawk will bring updates on this case as they are made available by the sheriffs office.
