Tonya Burton charged with theft from attorney's office

On Thursday, March 29, the Johnson County Sheriff’s office arrested Tonya M. Burton after an investigation into theft and fraud from a local attorney’s office. According to Sheriff Mike Reece, his office began this investigation in January after the attorneys in the office of Grayson, Wright and McEwen discovered that there had been some checking account transactions made without approval. After a lengthy investigation and review of records, investigators discovered that Burton who had been employed by the law office had allegedly made these unauthorized transactions. This evidence was presented to a Johnson County Grand Jury and an indictment was returned charging her with theft over $1,000 and eight counts of forgery.
