The Tomahawk recently won several awards in the 2014 University of Tennessee, Tennessee Press Awards State contest.
The paper took second place in its division for the 2013 special section, In Honor and Memory, and second place in best special issues for that years Progress edition, Home Grown and Transplanted.
Tomahawk writer and photographer, Lacy Hilliard, took first place for best feature photograph entitled A Cardinals Life. It is a true honor to be recognized by the TPA but my success would not have been possible without the unrelenting support of my fellow staff members at The Tomahawk, said Lacy Hilliard. I am forever grateful for the support of my work family and the encouraging atmosphere that allows me more creative freedom than I ever thought possible. Lacy is a terrific asset to The Tomahawk, said Paula Walter, assistant editor for the paper. Its not often you consider your coworkers family, but we are fortunate to have a group of people that consistently support each other and work with a spirit of cooperation and dedication that allows us to deliver news that is pertinent to our county week after week. We are very proud and pleased with Lacys accomplishments. It is exciting to be recognized for our efforts in our special Honor and Memory section, as well as the Progress edition.
