TBI investigating death of Johnson County jail inmate

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating the death of an inmate at the Johnson County jail on Saturday, March 19th. David Pendergrass, 48, was found alive but unresponsive in his cell and was taken to the Johnson County Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to Susan Niland, public information officer for the TBI, Pendergrass was brought to the jail on the night before, Friday, March 18th. He was discovered unresponsive when a corrections officer delivered a meal to him. Autopsy results are pending and the investigation remains ongoing.
