School year comes to a close

The Johnson County Board of Education got down to business Thursday night as the school year is coming to an end. Lisa Muncy approached the board regarding bullying concerns at Johnson County High School. Ms. Muncy presented her case to the board members and requested further action and response from the board in regard to her concerns. Jacob McGlamery gave a report to the board as to the current events at JCHS. The report included information regarding the Presidential Academic Excellence Awards and Senior banquet. Sixty-six students were honored with the PAEA last Monday. Those in attendance were entertained by the Basics from Mountain City Elementary and the JCHS choir and band. Many scholarships were awarded at the senior banquet last Tuesday as well.
In other business, Finance Director Russell Robinson gave a budget update detailing the statement of operations for April. Mr. Robinson stated the budget is operating in surplus mode at this time. The Board members concluded the meeting with positive remarks. Mr. Kevin Long was impressed with the PAEA awards ceremony and entertainment as well as the Senior Banquet. Mr. Buckles commented on the school year ending well.
