Ronnie Perkins, long-time county advocate, dies last week

Ronnie Perkins, 57 years old, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013. A native of Johnson County, Perkins lived in both Colorado and California after graduating from high school. Upon returning home for a class reunion in 1992, he made the decision to return to Johnson County and make it his home once again. He began working at the Northeast Correctional Complex in 1993.
Johnson County held a special place in Perkins’ heart and he worked diligently to advocate for his community. He was very involved with the local United Way for 10 years, serving as president for five years. He served on the Johnson County Planning Commission for eight years, with four years as chairman.
He leaves behind Kathy Perkins, one daughter, two sons, three stepdaughters, a sister and brother, along with several step grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many close and special friends.
