Proffitt, Vanover die in car accident

Christopher S. Proffitt, 22 years old, of Mountain City, Tennessee and Shana M. Vanover, 24, also of Mountain City, died Saturday, August 25, 2012 in a two-car collision that occurred on Highway 67 near the intersection of Spear Branch Road in Johnson County, Tennessee. Proffitt, driving a 2009 Honda, hit a 2006 Ford 1FA driven by Carl Trivette. According to the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Fatality Report, Proffitt was traveling east bound and crossed over the double yellow line into the westbound lane. He struck the vehicle driven by Trivette head on in a curve. Both vehicles ended up on a westbound shoulder of Tennessee State Highway 67. The report indicates Proffitt was not wearing his seat belt while Vanover did have her seat belt buckled. Although there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol, Tennessee State law requires toxicology tests to be administrated when a fatal automobile crash occurs. Both Carl and Dora Trivette, the passenger in the 2006 Ford 1 FA, sustained injuries.
Proffitt was the son of Joe and Sonya Nelson Proffitt. Vanover leaves behind her husband, Jason Vanover, four children, three girls and one boy. She was the daughter of Samuel Click, Jr., and Arizona Pass.
