Kiwanis in Johnson County becomes ‘Kids 1st’

Johnson County Kiwanis has become a local Civic Club with the same purpose but a new name.
“Kids 1st of Johnson County” is the new name for Kiwanis. Kiwanis is an International organization with a motto of “Changing the World – One Child at a Time.” Throughout the world, people work together in Kiwanis and make a difference in many childhood issues.
Our local Kiwanis Club has been chartered since 2007. The club was started with about 100 original members and has about 15 remaining and working. The club found that not only the members but the people of Johnson County prefer to help those in our community even though we care about the children of the world. The majority of our projects are local and everyone wants their donations to stay local. With this consensus and the yearly dues to Kiwanis International, the club decided to become local.
A contest was held at Mountain Youth Academy to design a logo. “Kids 1st of Johnson County” was the winner. Kids 1st invites you to join them in helping children in Johnson County. They meet the first Tuesday of each month at noon at the Community Center. Dues are $20 per year.
“Kiwanis of Johnson County” has given five $500 scholarships each year to Johnson County High School seniors, coordinated an annual 1K Fun Run for Children and their families, provided hats and gloves to the children receiving coats from Beta Theta (about 200 yearly), helped with community center projects and many other children’s needs. Kids 1st will continue these projects and maybe add a few more. For questions, you may contact any member.
