‘Kids 1st’ names Mike Taylor Teacher of the Year

Each year, Kid’s 1st of Johnson County honors a Teacher of the Year based upon essays submitted by students. The honored teacher not only receives a plaque and the honor, but $100 to be used in their classroom. Mike Taylor was awarded Kid’s 1st Teacher of the Year for 2016. Mike teaches sixth grade at Mountain City Elementary School and was commended in the student essay for “being patient and always taking time for every student. He also teaches an after school program called Appalachian Music and donates his time with a new project called JAM working with young musicians”. Mike has been teaching for nine years. He went to college after working many years at Burlington. He had a goal of teaching and making a difference with children and worked hard to make his dream come true. He said what he enjoys most about his career is doing his part in contributing to the academic success of his students. He wants each student to understand they are each a valued part of the classroom community and each person’s contribution is important.  He always wants to set a good personal example by his words and actions; hopefully instilling a sense of respect for themselves and others that will last a lifetime. Mike said, “I am humbled by this honorable recognition.” “Kids 1st is certainly pleased to honor such a deserving teacher,” said a representative of the organization. “We appreciate all our teachers and congratulate Mike.”  mike taylor honored online cmyk
