Johnson County to Celebrate Art Week with Garden Tours

Johnson County Mayor Mike Taylor has proclaimed the week of June 23 thru June 29 as Art Appreciation Week for Johnson County earlier this month, paving the way for a one of a kind celebration.
Combining the arts, music, and gardening, the Johnson County Arts Council and the Johnson County Center for the Arts are hosting its first ever, garden party on Saturday, June 29 and would like to invite everyone to enjoy a day long celebration of the county’s surrounding beauty.
Appropriately named “Art in the Garden” will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Johnson County Center for the Arts with the purchase of a ticket and coffee.
The garden tour organized by Nancy Garrick and Evelyn Cook will start at 9 a.m. encouraging participants to visit the lovely gardens until
“You will be treated to a luncheon at Silver Keys Bed and Breakfast in Doe Valley,” Garrick said, adding that a drawing for garden tools, artwork, antiques, gift certificates for restaurants, Garden Center and local businesses is also on the roster.
“There is also a hat competition for Garden Hats and Fancy Hats with first, second and third place winners,” she said.
An artist and a musician in each garden, as well as talks on growing different plants, will also be on hand to entertain visitors and help enjoy the lovely gardens.
“We are encouraging everyone to purchase their tickets early as we only have 100 available,” Garrick said.
Tickets are available at the Johnson County Center for the Arts, The Welcome Center, the House of Flowers, and Shay Brey.
Tickets for the drawings will be available for a $5 donation.
All are urged to plan on joining the party and celebrate the county with its beauty and art. Proceeds will be used to benefit the
Johnson County Center for the Arts.
