Johnson County celebrates Independence Day

A major summer thunderstorm that included hail in many parts of Johnson County on Monday afternoon threatened to disrupt the annual parade and fireworks, but fortunately it passed through the area and made way for a sunshiny celebration in Mountain City. Low lying smoke and haze over Ralph Stout Park did block the view of the fireworks for the large crowd that gathered later that night. High humidity seemed to capture and hold a smokescreen from fireworks of nearby neighbors just prior to the Chamber’s show. Although it was somewhat of a disappointment to those accustomed to a spectacular show each year, the fireworks that exploded beneath the barrier afforded a colorful display.
