Johnson County Cancer Support Group fundraiser

The Johnson County Cancer Support Group will be having a fund-raising event this Saturday, October 2nd at Roan Creek Baptist Church.
The evening’s activities will kick off at 5:00 p.m. with a soup bean supper. The group will be serving soup beans and all the fixings. Volunteers are bringing cornbread, chow-chow, macaroni and cheese, onions, you name it. But come early so you can be sure to fill up on your favorites.
There will also be a bake sale, and you know what that means in Johnson County! All kinds of homemade cakes, cookies, breads and candies. What better excuse do you need to feed your sweet tooth than helping out the Cancer Support Group? If you want to donate a baked item to the sale, just drop it by and we’ll take care of the rest.
A 3K run will begin at 6:00 that is open to anyone and everyone. If you finish the race, you’ll receive a medal for your efforts. First, second and third place winners will get a trophy. You can register to run by stopping by Janie’s Video or Johnson County Bank or you can just show up Saturday evening before six and sign up then.
A candlelight ceremony will be held at dusk honoring cancer survivors and memorializing those that have passed on. These candles only cost $3 each and can be purchased at Janie’s Video.
Live music will entertain the crowd throughout the evening.
The Johnson County Cancer Support Group is not affiliated with the American Cancer Society or its Relay For Life event. Rather than forwarding funds to the ACS for their cancer-fighting endeavors, they choose to give assistance to those Johnson Countians suffering from cancer. Janie Ward, a spokesperson for the group, says that 100% of the money received stays in the county.
Calls relating to this event or anything involving the Johnson County Cancer Support Group may be directed to Ward at 727-0110 or Temple Reece at 727-7701.
