Highway 167 and Lakeview Drive intersection claims another life

An accident involving two people Saturday night, March 14, 2015, left one person dead and another injured. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 1998 Subaru Impreza was traveling southbound on Highway 167 near the intersection of Lakeview Drive. The driver of the vehicle ran a stop sign and plunged into the lake.
Gregory Keith Harmon, 31, was unable to escape the vehicle and did not survive the accident. His passenger, 20-year-old Marena Ann Mikeal, was able to make her way out of the vehicle and was taken to Johnson City Medical Center. According to the report, she was wearing a seatbelt; Harmon was not. A preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol indicated Mikael tested positive for drugs, while Harmon tested positive for both alcohol and drugs. Both Harmon and Mikeal are from North Carolina.
This is the second time in about a year that a fatal accident has occurred at the intersection of Highway 167 and Lakeview Drive. There is no guardrail at this location. “They really need to do something at this intersection,” said Mike Reece, Johnson County Sheriff.
