Eaton, Vance charged with felonies including auto theft

Isaac Eaton, 22 years old from Shady Valley, Tennessee, along with Donald Derrick Vance, 21 years old of Creston, North Carolina were arrested on Saturday, May 2, 2014 on Doctor Taylor Lane after an incident that began at Village Apartments in Mountain City.
Mountain City Police Department was dispatched to the Village Apartments in regard to a report that shots had been fired. According to the offense report, before leaving the parking lot at the apartment complex where the two suspects were driving around, several rounds from an assault rifle were fired from the passenger side of the vehicle in the area between the main office and one of the residential apartment buildings. Witnesses stated that Eaton was driving and Vance was the shooter. When the officer began a search of the general area he located seven shell casings.
According to an additional report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, witnesses said Eaton and Vance entered the Village Apartments parking lot in a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse, the same make and model of a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Allegedly, after the shots were fired, the suspects fled the area, onto South Shady Street toward Shouns. According to Sheriff Mike Reece his department received a phone call alerting them to the suspects’ whereabouts. Following a short standoff with Johnson County deputies, Vance and Eaton were arrested on Doctor Taylor Lane.
According to the sheriff’s report, as officers were processing the scene, they discovered stolen property that included the vehicle in which they were traveling, firearms, safes and other items that had been taken during two previous home invasions that occurred the same day.
According to the Mountain City Police report, both Eaton and Vance were brought to the Johnson County Jail and advised of their rights where they agreed to speak to the police officer without a lawyer present. The report also states the subjects’ hands were swabbed for gunshot residue. According to officers, both subjects were intoxicated at the time of their arrests.
The sheriff’s report indicates Eaton and Vance were charged with aggravated burglary, conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, theft over $1,000, resisting arrest, as well as charges by the Mountain City Police Department of aggravated criminal trespassing, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony reckless endangerment, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony.
The reports also state that a criminal history shows both Eaton and Vance were previously convicted on felony charges. An arraignment date was not available at press time.
