County mayor lends a hand to local Meals on Wheels

First Tennessee Human Resource Agency’s Nutrition Program held Mayors for Meals Day on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Johnson County Mayor Larry Potter participated in the event to show his support for our community’s home bound and hungry seniors.

“We are excited about having Mayor Potter participate in our event. We hope to raise awareness and recruit more volunteers to help deliver Meals on Wheels,” says Wayne Carter, Director of FTHRA’s Nutrition Program. “Volunteers are invaluable to our program and to have the mayors from each of the eight counties of Northeast Tennessee participate demonstrates the value this program has on the communities we serve.”

FTHRA’s Nutrition Program provides meals at community meal sites, as well as homebound delivered meals through our Meals on Wheels program. We provide over 1,000 meals each weekday in eight counties of Northeast Tennessee. There is no charge to participants in our Meals on Wheels program or for those who are over 60 years of age who participate in our community meal program. Donations and meal sponsorships are accepted. To find a meal site in your area or to learn more about FTHRA and the programs, please call 423.461.8200 or visit www.fthra.org.
