Julie R. Canter grew up in Mountain City. She was instilled with a strong work ethic as a child that carried through to her professional life. Now Canter is being recognized by the American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys (AIOPIA) as both the 2019 American Institute’s 10 Best Female and 10 Best by State. The decision is heavily based on client satisfaction, research, and nominations.
“As long as I can help one person, one case, and one day at a time, that is the best accomplishment I could hope for,” said Canter when asked about her goals. “As a person, I try to learn something new every day. To be better than I was the day before.”
Canter worked as an Assistant District Attorney for many years before a life-changing event inspired her to start over. She was in an automobile collision and decided to focus more on defense than prosecution. Canter came home to Mountain City to achieve her dream of opening a private practice and spend more time with her family.
“After the collision, I came to realize that life could change in an instant, and it is too short to spend in the wrong job,” said Canter. “This motivated me to want to help others who had been through similar experiences. I was blessed to know what action to take, but many people don’t have the same training that I have had.”
Canter has a love for animals. As a prosecutor, she specialized in animal abuse, child abuse, and sex crime cases. Canter sponsors animals from Rescue DOG and End of Life Sanctuary each week in the Tomahawk, makes occasional donations to Rescue Dog, and adopted a homeless siamese cat back in 2018. She extends a helping hand to clients as well with a free 30-minute consultation.
