A two-car wreck that occurred Friday, December 3rd, 2010 on Bobby Hicks Highway in Gray left Tanya K. Martin dead and her six-year-old daughter injured. The driver of the other car involved, David A. Billings of Mountain City, has been charged with vehicular homicide and reckless aggravated assault.
According to reports from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Martin was driving north in a 2001 Ford Focus when a southbound 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Billings veered into her lane and struck her car. Martin, 27, of Gray, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her daughter was transported to Johnson City Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition at press time. Billings was flown to the medical center by helicopter.
According to Washington County officials, Billings is now in the detention center there under $150,000 bond. According to a press release, speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, December 13th.
