Remis reflects on Joyce Kidd’s years of service

Dear Editor:
December 30, 2016 was the last day for the Director at the Johnson County Senior Center after 17 years of dedication to our seniors. On her last day, she offered a wonderful covered-dish lunch with home made dishes, plenty of desserts and donated foods from the Panda Garden restaurant who always contributes.
Joyce Kidd is retiring early to care for her father who needs full time care.  She had so much love, hard work and concerns for all seniors, especially to the seniors who have no relatives.  Joyce makes seniors in this county feel like the Senior Center is their second home and treats them like family. No matter how busy she is, she takes the time to answer their questions, takes them to Wal-Mart and shopping centers, visit a new place during the warmer months like a zoo in TN and NC, picnics at a mountain in NC and trips to Roan Mountain to enjoy the flowers in June, arrange for lunch at different restaurants in different counties (Blue Rooster) which was very entertaining and no senior ever went home with out winning a prize when playing Bingo at our Center. One senior never saw the ocean and thoughtful Joyce planned a trip with others to see it. Over the last 17 years there have been so many great changes, improvements to the building, new flooring, refurbished hardwood flooring for our dancers and exercise program, face lifts to the front and back porches with rockers, and all the great fund raisers.  We trust the new director who arrives in January can fill Joyce’s shoes.
We have been blessed with Joyce’s many talents, lovely smiles and they will be so missed now that she is gone. In the future when you see her in church, at the bank or grocery store shopping…give this beautiful lady a great big hug!
