Pastors should be appreciated all year

Dear Editor:

While October is Pastor Appreciation Month every month we should appreciate our pastor. Be thankful your pastor isn’t in prison like Pastor Saeed who has been in an Iranian prison for a year for his faith. God never removes His calling so a pastor is never out to pastor. Pastors in nursing homes can pastor their nursing home.
As a result of a major media and Hollywood that puts down Christian pastors and churches and America’s social and moral decay respect for pastors and churches has declined to shockingly low levels in America. America has become a cesspool of filth, violence and evil. Last year in American churches there were 115 attacks with 75 of these ending in death. Most of the extreme moral and social decay is in our large cities. But even in East Tennessee churches were broken into and or vandalized. It’s becoming more important than ever to secure our automobiles, homes and even churches!
It’s most important to secure our souls. A century from now it won’t matter what kind of house we lived in, how much money we had, how popular we are, nor what we looked like. It will only matter that we repented (turned from sin) and had saving faith (turned to Jesus and trusted Him only as Savior and Lord). Because this is true there’s no other profession except Christian pastors that touches people in such a vital way and with such lasting impact, since eternity goes on forever! Always the most important news and often the only good news is the good news of Jesus!
Alexis de Tocqueville wrote in 1835 a study of American society and of the positive impact of Christianity and pastors upon America’s success. “I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers, and it was not there; in her fertile fields and boundless prairies, and it was not there; in her rich mines and vast world commerce, and it was not there. Not until I went to the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”
May God raise up once again in church pulpits across America pastors that will speak the truth and call America back to Jesus and to our Biblical roots!
