Love is harder to find than ever

Dear Editor:

On Valentine’s Day people express love. Love is important but harder to find then ever. The lack of a decent loving father is the number one thing criminals in prison have in common. It’s a sign of the soon return of Jesus. Jesus said right before He returns, “because evil shall abound the love of many shall wax cold.” We are seeing more of the opposite of love which is selfishness. The Bible says in 2 Timothy right before Jesus returns people will be lovers of their own selves. People are so focused on their self the most popular new word for 2013 was selfie. People whose life isn’t centered on Jesus become too self-centered to love others. C.S. Lewis said, “look for yourself, and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin and decay. But look for Jesus and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in!”

Psychologists say the feeling of being ‘in love’ last on the average of two years. C.S. Lewis said couples who are no longer ‘in love’ often jump to the conclusion that they have made a mistake and are entitled to a change – not realizing that when they have changed the glamour will presently go out of the new love just as it went out of the old one. Christians have the best example and best understanding of love. Love is best seen in theself-sacrificing love of Jesus on the cross to pay our sin debt. In the Christian sense love is an action not a feeling. Lewis said, “Don’t waste time bothering whether you love your neighbor (or spouse), act as if you did. As soon as we do this we find one of the greatest secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love him.”

Because of the amount of selfishness has skyrocketed the number of heartbroken people has skyrocketed. People don’t understand how evil and selfish they are. This is because, “we don’t see things as they are, but we see things as we are.” Only Jesus can forgive your sin and make you a more giving, forgiving and loving person. No boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife or same-sex partner can met your deepest needs. Only Jesus can give you real security, identity and purpose. Only Jesus can heal the brokenhearted. Only by building your life and marriage on the rock (Jesus) will it not end up on the rocks. Unless the Lord Jesus build the house and home they that labor, labor in vain. Only with Jesus can we live happily ever after both now and forever!
