Hannah Woods thanks Teddy Bear Drive participants

Dear Editor:

My name is Hannah Woods and I’m 16 years old. I am an active member of the SADD Club of Johnson County. For those who may not know, SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions. Together, we perform numerous community service projects. I decided to explore my own community service project. I was informed by Denise Woods, Project Coordinator for the A.C.T.I.O.N. Coalition, of a project I could do called the Teddy Bear Drive. She explained to me that in situations where a child is removed from their home due to drug use or domestic violence, often times the child can’t take anything with them – not even a toy. Johnson County law enforcement officers like to carry stuffed animals with them to give to children in such situations. Also, Safe Haven distributes toys to children from domestic violence homes. This inspired me to hold a Teddy Bear Drive from March 1st to May 31st, 2013. With the help of the community, 366 stuffed animals were collected. A big thank you goes to everyone who donated! Thank-you for helping.

Sincerely,
Hannah Woods
