Day of Prayer is tomorrow, May 2

Dear Editor:

The 62nd annual observance of the National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 2, 2013. U.S. Congress in a joint resolution created the National day of Prayer in 1952 and President Harry Truman signed it into law at the urging of Rev. Billy Graham. See www.nationaldayofprayer.org for more info. Also pray for Billy Graham and help him by going to www.myhopewithbillygraham.org.
The theme for 2013 is ‘Pray for America,’ emphasizing for individuals, corporately and individually to place their faith in the unfailing character of God, who is sovereign over all governments, authorities and people. To further highlight the theme, Matthew 12:21 is the scripture for this year: “In His name the nations will put their hope.” As Mary Washington, mother of our first president said, “Remember that God is our only sure trust.” We saw examples of this when an asteroid barely missed the Earth on February 15 that could have killed millions. Also our government after spending billions couldn’t stop two Muslim terrorists from terrorizing Boston.
For the May 2nd observances, Pastor Greg Laurie, the 2013 Honorary Chairman has written a special prayer to be simultaneously read throughout the nation at noon (EST). Greg Laurie is right in a sermon last year. He said individually and as a nation we have a choice between, “Judgment or Revival.” Everyone lowered their flags and patriotism was high after the terrorist attacks in Boston. However while patriotism is good only by lowering ourselves (humility) and prayer to and trust in
Jesus can we as individuals and as a nation be saved!
In these last days that are the most dangerous in history, Christians don’t have to be afraid and should focus on spreading the gospel and on Jesus and His soon return. Isaiah 26:3 “Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee (Jesus): because he trust in thee.”
Those individuals and nations that have rejected Jesus should be very afraid and they will. Psalm 9:17, “the wicked shall be turned into hell and all nations that forget God.” Ezekiel 33:11 “Say unto them, as I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn from your evil ways: for why will you die,…(America)?”
