Attorney responds to last week's letter from Eastridge

Dear Editor:
It is not uncommon for the dockets of our local courts to get backlogged creating frustration not only for the citizens awaiting disposition of their own cases but also for the court officers and clerks. Bearing this in mind, one can only imagine the stress this backlog causes to the legal system when the position of Judge is only part-time.
I have been a practicing attorney in Bristol, Tennessee since 1997 during which time I have appeared before the Honorable William B. “Bliss” Hawkins in Mountain City many times on behalf of my clients. One may not always agree with the decision handed down but you can always be sure he has thoroughly researched each case brought before him. Judge Hawkins is the General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge for Johnson County, and his judgeship is part-time. It is my opinion that the residents of Johnson County need Judge Hawkins to be full time. His Honor is doing an excellent job, however, his case load is more like that of a full time judge.
I would urge this newspaper and the residents of Johnson County to pursue the creating and funding for a full time General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge for Judge Hawkins.
