Once again the Johnson County Senior Center will be hosting the Golden Mile walk for Johnson County Senior Center members on Thursday, September 27 at 10:30 a.m. According to event organizers, the second annual walk on the Goose Trail will start and finish at the Ralph Stout Park picnic shelters. Members will have a choice of walking one fourth, one half, or a full mile on the Goose Trail while all will be recognized for their efforts. Upon completion of the walk, participants will be provided a cookout lunch at 11:30 a.m.
According to event organizers, other activities such as horseshoes and corn hole games, blood pressure checks, a live band, coupled with fixing some smores for dessert will be available. T-shirts and meals for the event are sponsored by the Extra Mile Ministries Foundation (Barbara Seals, Joe Herman, and Priscilla Herman). J.R. Campbell and Shouns Lumber Company will provide unique woodcraft door prizes, while Ballad Health will also have a hand in the activities by offering free blood pressure checks. Student members of the Lifetime Sports Club and their faculty sponsor, Kechia Eller, from J.C.H.S are scheduled to assist with all the activities.
The Johnson County Senior Center especially thanks all the community sponsors, because without their continued support we would not be able to provide such special activities for our seniors to enjoy. Those 60 years or older and are not already a member of the Senior Center and would like to participate in this event, are encouraged to stop buy by the Center at 128 College St. to sign up. There is no membership fee to join the Johnson County Senior Center, but the registration fee for participating in the Golden Mile event is $5.00.
