Next week’s Imagination Library Carnival is being held in honor of Barb Gratsch

Barb Gratsch

The fourth annual Johnson County Imagination Library Carnival will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. at the library in Heritage Square. Barb Gratsch is being honored at the beginning of the event for her dedication to children’s literacy and her leadership of the Johnson County Imagination Library Board.
Barb began her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher in Michigan and was instrumental in helping establish early literacy programs. This, along with opportunities to meet and work with well known children’s authors, fueled her lifelong passion for early literacy development.
Barb later taught in the Brevard County School District in South Florida where she developed a very successful and innovative literacy program that became a model for schools across the United States. Barb retired and moved to Johnson County and immediately became involved in the elementary schools as a volunteer and in 2013 became the chair of the Johnson County Imagination Library Board. Under her leadership, the percentage of children in Johnson
County receiving books has increased to 75%.
Barb has recently moved to North Carolina. Betty Brown and Shelia Cruse are now the co-chairs of the Johnson County Imagination Library Board.
