Fresh Is Best! Yes, this is the Johnson County Farmers Market motto. We are excited to be starting out our 2017 market with some of the freshest, most beautiful produce I bet you have ever seen. The weather has been perfect lately for the early spring crops. We will have plenty of greens including kale, arugula, Swiss chard, mustard greens, lettuce, spinach and Chinese greens. Broccoli is also ready, as are radishes. Several vendors have pasture raised chicken eggs. Web will be there with several varieties of fresh baked French bread and Mimi will have her scrumptious cupcakes. Chestnut Grove Farms will have plenty of grass fed beef with samples. We’ll have a variety of handmade craft items as well. The Acorn Valley Bluegrass band will help us launch our 2017 season.
Look for our new billboard on 421 as you enter Mountain City from Trade. This was made possible through a grant from East Tennessee Foundation. A special thank you goes out to Web and Gloria Griffith and the local Watauga Watershed Alliance for donating the billboard space and to Lyn Walker, Dennis Shekinah and David Jones for putting up the graphics.
Our new “Fresh is Best” T-shirts will also be available Saturday. We have a variety of colors and sizes including children sizes. Come to the manager’s table to have your morning cup of coffee, pick up the new local food guide, sign up for this year’s email list and check out the t-shirts. As always, we accept EBT cards and will again this year be offering the FRE$H Savings Program which gives Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program shoppers double their money on produce purchased at the market.
The Johnson County Farmers Market is located at the county courthouse parking lot across from the post office in downtown Mountain City, Tennessee and is open every Saturday from 9 until noon from May through October.
