Saturday was a big day for all the Johnson County Little Leaguers. The 2016 season got off to a rousing start with a parade down the center of Main Street. Each player along with their coaches and league officials walked the parade route that ended up at Cunningham Park for the opening day ceremonies. Seventeen teams took part in the festivities and the stands were packed with parents on both sides.
Every player was introduced by league president Brian Day and they all took part in a jamboree type game afterwards. Highlighting the event were the three softball teams. This was a big step toward establishing a feeder program for the junior high and high school teams after a two-year absence. Day also noted that all 17 teams had individual sponsors this season.
Schedules have been finalized for the Major and Minor baseball leagues and also for softball. T-Ball schedules were still being determined. Each team is pictured in today’s Tomahawk Little League special section. You will also find players names and schedules with the exception of T-ball. The Tomahawk will run the T-Ball schedule upon its completion in our Wednesday weekly. The league is hoping to have a successful season with several improvements in the cards.
We hope everyone has an enjoyable season. And remember, they are only kids.
