The Lady Longhorns season came to an end Friday night, but they gave one last good effort.

JCHS fell behind 18-4, but never gave up in a 51-34 defeat to Happy Valley in the opening round of the District 1-AA Basketball Tournament.
The Lady Longhorns started out slow as Happy Valley had the hot hand early, but JCHS did make a competitive game out of it.

“They played their hearts out tonight,” JCHS head coach Stacey Reece said. “They played so, so hard. We got tired in the third quarter and didn’t take care of the ball.”

JCHS trailed 24-16 at halftime after outscoring Happy Valley 12-6 in the second.

The beginning of the third was the Chevy Leonard show as she hit some big shots, but the Lady Longhorn then just ran out of gas.

“Chevy came through,” Reece said about the freshman. “She’s a good kid and I think if she works on her left hand she’s going to be tough by the time she is a junior or senior. She has the right attitude and mentality.

“Chevy has a great natural shot and I knew she could generate some offense and that’s what she did tonight. I’m proud of her and proud of all of them.”
