Doris Faye Luntsford Curd, 73, passed away on Thursday (Sept. 7, 2017) at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, VA.
She was born in Jacksonville, FL and grew up in Appalachia, VA. Doris lived in Mountain City, TN for 40 years, where she was an elementary school teacher. She was a former “Teacher of the Year” in Johnson County, TN. Doris had an impact on many children through her years as an educator. She was a member of the Mountain City Presbyterian Church and attended Appalachia United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Allen Luntsford, Sr. and Sylvia June (Smith) Luntsford; nephew, Charles Frederick “Freddie” Luntsford; niece, Devieka Rajbansee-Crisler; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Rajbansee.
Surviving are daughters, Martha June Curd, Laura Ann Curd, and Christina Tschida; grandsons, Jackson Curd, Jacob Curd, Reef Wang, all of Greenville, NC; a step-grandson, Avery Wang; brother, Fred Luntsford, Jr. and wife, Gail of Appalachia; sisters, Freda Rajbansee of Appalachia and Carole Collier of Cleveland, TN; several nieces and nephews; and Josh Barker of Appalachia, whom she referred to as the son she never had.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap, VA.
The funeral service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Barry Schuch and Danny Wolfe presiding.
Graveside committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. The family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
