Beth Harwell, currently speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives, stopped by for a quick visit to The Tomahawk staff on Monday Harwell made the decision to run for governor in July of last year. She is traveling through the state, beginning in Kingsport Monday morning. As Speaker of the House, she led the House to abolish the death tax, gift tax and Hall income tax. She fought for limited government policies that led the state to its lowest unemployment rate in history. She supported measures against illegal immigration and sanctuary cities. She opposed Common Core and supported Tennessee standards for schools in the state. Harwell voted for a constitutional amendment that restricts abortion and passed legislation defending the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners.
