Johnson County began its 2015 Little League Baseball Season with five teams each in its three divisions. The major league consists of players ages 9-12 while the minor league has ages 6-8. The four- and five-year-olds play Tee Ball.
Tarr’s Longhorns, Braves, Angels, Diamondbacks and the Dodgers make up the majors. Farm Bureau Braves, Diamondbacks, Cubs, Orioles and Angels form the quintet of teams in the minors.
The Yankees, Dodgers, Orioles, Giants and Reds will be the team names in Tee-Ball.
League president, Aleshia Shankel, is hoping that they can grow over the next few years. She said the plan is in place to get some much needed projects done.
“We want to concrete the dugouts and fix them up real nice,” said Shankel. “We need something that can keep our kids dry and give them safety in the event of rain. We don’t have that right now. We are currently seeking donations to try and get this accomplished.”
All major league games will be played at Cunningham Park, one of the top Little League venues in Northeast Tennessee.
High school football was played there in the 60’s but the town of Mountain City has done a remarkable job of surrounding it with a public swimming pool and playground equipment.
They also have several businesses who have stepped up to sponsor teams.
