WILLIAM C. “BILL” TOLLIVER -
William C. “Bill” Tolliver, Sr., age 83, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center, following an extended illness. Mr. Tolliver was born in Sevier County to the late E.B. and Martha Rogers Tolliver.
Mr. Tolliver was a sales representative for Conwood Corporation and the former owner of Right-Way Rental. He was a member of Wilkesboro United Methodist Church in Wilkesboro, NC, a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM and a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, a former member of the Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge, a United States Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict, a member of American Legion Post No. 49 and a past president of the Wilkes County Fireman’s Association in 1975 and a former member of Broadway Volunteer Fire Department in Wilkesboro.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Juanita Pierce Tolliver, of the home; three sons, Billy Tolliver and wife Carol of Wilkesboro, NC, Tim Tolliver and wife Christi, Granite Falls, NC, and Joe Tolliver of Elizabethton; one sister, Helen Tolliver Teague of Spring Hill, KS; two grandchildren, Jamie Tolliver and Miranda Tolliver both of Wilkesboro; two nieces, Debbie Teague Jeffries and Susan Teague Wiley; special cousins of the Jolly Tipton family; and special extended family, Dr. Aubrey McElroy and wife Janey and family.
The funeral service for Mr. William C. “Bill” Tolliver, Sr. were conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, February 28, 2014 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with a eulogy by Dr. Aubrey McElroy. A Masonic service followed the funeral service. Music was under the direction of Eddie Shelton and Carolyn Pleasant. The family received friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday; or at the residence at anytime.
The graveside service was conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2014 in the Morley Cemetery on Morley Road in Mountain City, TN. Military honors were accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers were A.D. McElroy, Adam McElroy, Andrew McElroy, Matt Keller, Tom Pleasant, and Stephen Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Aubrey McElroy, Wade Campbell, Bill Absher, Tom Taylor, George Good, Paul Crowe, Robert Pilk, L.D. Fair, Milt Fair, Dave Mascioli and the Elizabethton High School Class of 1950.
