MR. DEAN L. STOUT -
Mr. Dean L. Stout, age 78, of 1186 Stout Branch Road, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013 in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. Dean was born on February 7, 1935 in Johnson County, Tennessee, to the late D.L. Snyder and Virginia Stout Coffey. He was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Dale Stout. Dean was a member of Vaught’s Gap Baptist Church and regularly attended the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church also. Dean enjoyed working with his backhoe and farming, especially working with his cattle. Dean was a current Johnson County Commissioner, served as Johnson County Circuit Court Clerk for eight years, and was a United States Marine Corp veteran.
He was a former member of the Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679 F&AM in Butler, Tennessee and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include: son, Michael L. and wife Vicki A. Stout of Mountain City, Tennessee; two sisters, Nancy Jacobs and husband Alton, Mountain City, Tennessee and Linda Arnold and husband Terry of Elizabethton, Tennessee; one brother, Tommy Coffey and wife Linda of Mountain City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Carli Stanley and husband Justin, Hampton, Tennessee and Calli Rae Smith, Mountain City, Tennessee. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Dean were conducted on Saturday, November 9, 2013 from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Norman and Rev. Chuck Morefield officiating. Music was under the direction of Joe Simcox. The family received friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service hour. Pallbearers were Roby Dunn, Dwayne Arney, Bill Shepperd, Jerry Stanley, Scott Matheson, Joe Stanley, Jerry Grindstaff and Alton Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers were Commissioners of Johnson County, Bill Wilson, Bill Brookshire, Freddey Phipps, Jay Mink, Ernest Tester, Bill Michaels, Eddie Forbes and Terry Shull. Military graveside services were conducted from the Stout Family Cemetery following the funeral, accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
