FREDERICK W. WAMPLER M.D. -
Dr. Frederick W. Wampler, 80, passed away April 13, 2013 at Bridgewater Home where he was a resident.
Dr. Wampler was born on July 1, 1932 in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late J. Galen and Virginia Fifer Wampler. He graduated from Linville-Edom High School in 1949, Bridgewater College in 1953 and the Medical College of Virginia in 1957. He served his internship at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He then served as the physicians’ surgeon for nine years in Maharastra, India at the Brethren Mission Hospital at Dahanu. He then returned to the states and practiced for five years at Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Kentucky. Beginning in 1973 he practiced at Johnson County Hospital in Mountain City, Tenneseee. After its closing, he moved to Jefferson, North Carolina and worked at Ashe Memorial Hospital from 1990 until his retirement.
He was an active member of the Church of the Brethren having served as a past moderator of the South Eastern District. He was currently a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.
On August 15, 1953, he married the former Josephine Spanger who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Amanda Marie Smith and husband David; Ruth Virginia Seaberg and husband James, all of Mountain City, Tennessee; Rosalie Wamper, Baltimore, Maryland; one brother, J. Marion Wampler and wife Valerie, Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Shirley Wampler, Richmond; five grandchildren, Jessica Smith Muncy, Sarah Smith, Christine Price, Gerald Seaberg, and Adam Manfre.
Dr. Wampler was preceded in death by a brother, Galen Wampler.
Reverend Jeff Carr and Chaplain Deb Huffman conducted a graveside service, April 16, 2013 at Greenmount Cemetery at 3p.m. The family received friends prior to the service from 2p.m. until 3p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren, at 11:00 a.m.
A memorial service will also be held on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren in Taylors Valley, VA.
