Local racing team gains win at Elk Creek Dragway

During the week of April 25th–27th, Elk Creek Dragway held the first annual Invitational Bracket Nationals. This was a high dollar drag race paying $2,500 on Friday and Saturday then finishing up with a 4,000 to win race on Sunday.

The Mountain City Motorsports Teammates Pizza backed dragster made the haul to Elk Creek, Virginia looking for the first big win of the year. Friday’s race was postponed due to rain and rescheduled for the next day. On Saturday, Brandon Thompson and the Teammates Pizza dragster dominated the event. Brandon made it into the finals and turned the win light on in his lane giving his team the victory. The team decided to sit out the second race that night to prepare for the next day’s race. On Sunday once again the Teammates Pizza dragster was strong all day long but finally fell when Brandon went two thousandths of a second red on the tree. When they lost there were only 10 cars left in the race. All in all it was a great weekend of racing for the whole team.

Thompson was quoted as saying he would like to thank God first and foremost because without him none of this would be possible. “I also have to thank Teammates Pizza for all of their great support and the best pizza in the world. Our engine builder Larry Snead at S&G Auto, his motor is tried and true. He always has me a bad ride! A big thanks to my mom and dad who have always backed me and my wife Amy who is the hardest working gal in drag racing,” Thompson continued. I also have to send a shout out to the youngest member of our team present for the weekend, Michael Oxentine. He was a great help all weekend! The whole crew did an outstanding job the entire weekend. They gave me a car that was consistent all day long. It’s an amazing feeling to know that we will always be known as the first ever winner of this great event.”

Thompson and the team are looking to do more of the same all year racing at Bristol Dragway and various tracks in the area. If you are interested in following them you can find them on Facebook or go to MountainCityMotorsports.com.
