The Lady Longhorns con¬tinued their recent string of success even against a tough opponent like Sullivan East. Playing against the Lady Patri¬ots last Friday, Johnson County pulled out a solid 7-2 victory that once again highlighted the amazing talent of the largely freshman and sophomore team.

Following a string of good contact in the first inning, including a double by se¬nior Ashley Arnold, freshman Jayme Jennings landed the big hit of the evening, nailing a home run that gave her three RBI’s. “I knew it was gone as soon as it came off the bat,” said head coach Dana Smith. “She swings so hard that I think if she hits one at our place it will hit the building or end up on the baseball field.”

Jumping ahead early with a 3 run lead, the Lady Longhorns were strong on the offense, but really hit their stride de¬fensively. With Brianna Snyder striking out 5 batters in all and 3 in the first inning, East had an extremely tough time getting on the ball. “Brianna was on fire,” Smith said. “She just threw one great spot after another. It was probably the best game I’ve seen her pitch, period. She hit everything I asked her to hit.”

Other players had notable performances as well, includ¬ing Haley Miller in the catch¬ers position, a spot that she is now holding due to a couple of injuries in the lineup. “The seniors are doing well.” Smith said. “Kristin Roark made some great plays at first base against East. Haley is work¬ing really hard. She gets upset with herself because she feels like she isn’t hitting as well as she should but that’s because she’s doing things defensively that she hasn’t done in a long time and its wearing her out. I’ve told her not to worry about it, but she wants to do well. I’ve told her she just needs to relax and it will be okay. Kelsey Duperry played amazing at third base. They started calling her hoover and dirt devil. She does really well and I’m very impressed with her. Really it was all just amazing.”
