Cancer Society makes hats, wigs for patients available in Johnson County

A new service will be available to cancer patients in Johnson County with the help of the American Cancer Society and the Society’s local advocates.

Patients currently undergoing treatment that are facing the physical side effect of hair loss will now have a place to receive a wig and hats, free of charge through the Society’s program. The items are available at Chrissy’s Classic Cuts located at 786 South Shady Street.

As always the items are also available to Johnson County patients in the American Cancer Society’s Johnson City office as well as at the Cancer Resource Centers at the Regional Cancer Center in Johnson City and Kingsport Hematology and Oncology.

Patients will also have another channel to reach resources available from the American Cancer Society. A new ACS Advocate program has been initiated and currently has four volunteers in Mountain City that can send direct patient referrals to the Society for easy access to programs and services. The advocates are Temple Reece, Celeste Dunn, Lesa Brown and Chrissy Icenhour.

For more information about these new programs, or to become an ACS Advocate, call Reece at 727-7701

To schedule an appointment for a wig fitting, call Icenhour at 727-4953.
